Case Closed! December 4, 2011

This is a shout out to my fellow young collectors, and of course, anyone else who is lusting over our White Bookcase.

With the size of houses shrinking and ones undying need to indulge in the odd retail therapy session, if your house looks anything like my own the clutter is ever building. But stress no more! Tickle your self-indulging retail needs with our White Bookcase, and if you’re anything like myself I couldn’t help but start shopping for some extra little trinkets to help bring closure to those empty spaces.

Juicy Interiors December 1, 2011

Citrus is trending in interiors right now and it is time to take the opportunity to brighten up your home for summer. There are a variety of tones in the citrus colour palette but the three main colours are yellow, orange and green (conveniently all available in the Evolvex Designer!).

When designing a room you need to not only find a room comfortable or beautiful. You need to be happy with how the room makes you feel while you are in the space.

For example:

Yellow (warm)- energy, freshness, joy

Orange (warm)- endurance, creativity, vitality

Green (cool)- hope, nature, harmony

Citrus colours are complementary and can be used on their own or in more bold, colour blocking design. They are versatile colours that mix well with exposed wood, white, black, browns and for the brave, blues and pinks. Just a small injection of these deliciously fruity colours, such as on the doors of a cabinet or shelving in a bookcase, can add a refreshing, lively energy to a room. Here is some juicy inspiration to help you get designing.

Studio Pha November 29, 2011

studiopha

Lately I’ve been dreaming about living in beautiful white spaces and after coming across Studio Pha, a practice based in Prague, I think I may be one step closer.

This project is called the Family House and lives in the east village of Klokočná. With a traditional barn conversion, you can’t go wrong once it’s paired with some stellar contemporary design. The most exciting part about unusual architectural angles is what happens inside:

Transforming a Tiny Apartment November 23, 2011

Video: A Tiny Apartment Transforms into 24

It was probably a year ago when I first came across the transforming apartment via Planet Green. This video has been sitting in my bookmarks ever since, until this morning. Thanks to the beauty that is Apartment Therapy, I was reminded of what a truly impressive creation it is. The beauty of design is the ability for simple things to keep changing and to transform and it seems Gary Chang is definitely taking hold of this notion.

Imagine a 330 square foot apartment transforming into 24 different variations of a home. If only we could pull out every TV wall to find a kitchen and slide back every wall of books to find our very own bathtub. Gary Chang seems like a genius to me.

I also can’t help but think this somehow ties back our very own Evolvex range. While all of us may not be handy enough to throw together our own architecturally brilliant creation of an apartment, we still can find out own little way to be creative and design our own furniture.  Be sure to check it out here.

We’ve been getting some amazing reviews!

Evolvex is a new, Australian-made flat pack alternative to the obvious flat pack solutions we all know. But this offering is certified environmentally sound, and is customizable, interchangeable, and delivered straight to your door. Bonus. Lost At E Minor

“I loved finding Evolvex Furniture the other day. This simplistic, stylish and super affordable range of self-assemble furniture is a breeze to put together.” Sydney On A Shoestring

There are plenty of good reasons to buy Evolvex: it’s family-run, Australian-owned and better for the environment. But despite the altruism, we’ve discovered our interest in Evolvex is embarrassingly superficial – it looks nice and we want. The Agenda Daily

Besides being of a high enough quality to withstand my shenanigans, Evolvex furniture is also aesthetically pleasing; the panels and cushions come in a variety of colours and because each part is meant to be interchangeable, the design is sleek and minimalist. A Caucus Race

Evolvex furniture is modular and minimal and they probably have something very practical that you need in your house right now. The Thousands

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Thank you to all our supporters on Facebook and Twitter.

Video: Evolvex vs Billy November 21, 2011

We know that assembling furniture is not always easy. Here’s our cheeky take on the Evolvex assembly method vs the Billy Bookcase!

We’ve gone live!!! November 16, 2011

Our design app is still buggy on some computers but we’ve decided to forge ahead and go live because we can’t hold Evolvex back any longer!!!!

Please do send us your feedback and we’ll take it very seriously. If you’d like to purchase anything we have a ready to buy section set up.

You can purchase designs in the app – we’ll email you to confirm the order and will call to confirm we have your design accurately recorded. We want your purchasing experience to be nothing less than amazing.

One week to go! November 8, 2011

The place is whirring as we prepare for our launch on November 15.

Admittedly it’s both scary and exciting. We’ve been talking about this thing for so long and to see it actually come to life has been very fulfilling.

We look forward to letting people into our world and growing a community of ‘design it yourself’ people.

The thing that made my day this morning was finding our flyer for our pop up shop in my local cafe.

It’s all happening!!!!

Playlist : Songs to design furniture to #1 November 3, 2011

I’m a bit of a music nut and worked in the recorded music industry or 3 years (mostly at EMI) which really amplified my collection of great tunes as you are surrounded by fellow music fans who recommend heaps of amazing artists.

Like many people, I tend to create playlists to suit particular functions – songs to study to, songs to workout to, road trip songs, indie love songs, songs I’ll never admit to liking but secretly love, and so on. This got me thinking about what type of music could be appropriate to listen to while designing furniture.

Completely biased but I think slowish electronic/pop music is the key to the state of mind needed for good design. It relaxes you but keeps you alert at the same time.

Here is a youtube playlist of songs I’ve just been listening to lately. I call this ‘songs to design furniture to’ – title may change but premise will remain.

LIST:

  1. Gold Panda – You
  2. Flume – Possum
  3. Gorillaz feat Little Dragon – Empire Ants
  4. SBTRKT feat Little Dragon – Wildfire
  5. The XX – Teardrops
  6. Florence and the Machine (XX Remix) – You’ve Got The Love
  7. Empire of the Sun – Without You
  8. The XX – Crystalised
  9. Sia – Soon We’ll Be Found
  10. Fleet Foxes – Mykonos
  11. Tim & Jean – Come Around
  12. Peter Bjorn & John – Young Folks

What are some great tunes you’d recommend?

Inspiration Spotlight : Pinterest.com November 1, 2011

Pinterest.com is definitely one to spark inspiration when looking for those design ideas.  It’s currently in beta mode but you can request an invite. Do a simple search with a few key words to be presented with pages and pages of ‘pinteresting’ designs collated by fellow pinners and add your own by ‘pinning’ images as you surf the web. Definitely a great place to collect all your ideas as you start to formulate your design concept for your space or your furniture piece. Best thing to do is collate pictures into themes and then from there pick your favourites.

If you’re like me you will find yourself attracted to either similar styles to what you already have or styles that you’ll aspire to but never really acquire. I stay on the conservative side of whites, creams and light beige but I DREAM about the radical. I rent my apartment so can’t really go with crazy feature walls or remodels however furniture is something definitely within my realm of control and it’s something I can change easily when my needs or moods change. My 2012 new years resolution is to buy my own place – in Sydney’s crazy real estate market I’m not really sure what I’ll end up with but at the very least it’ll be something to test my design ideas on.

What’s a look you have been loving lately?
